Informal training makes it difficult to know which procedures a team member has seen, practised, and demonstrated independently. A structured checklist creates a practical record without turning onboarding into a complicated system.
Organize the checklist around the work: orientation, opening and closing readiness, cleaning and safety, equipment handling, service communication, and final review.
Make the record meaningful
- Separate instruction from demonstrated readiness
- Add trainer and employee initials where useful
- Record dates and specific follow-up needs
- Revisit tasks after role changes or retraining
- Finish with a manager review rather than automatic completion
A checklist cannot replace good coaching, but it can make training coverage visible, reduce missed topics, and give managers a consistent standard across shifts.
